As part of our efforts as solution providers and ensure Deaf women access to universal health care and maternity services in line with UNCRDP (Art 9; 25), our organization (Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN), Abuja chapter & Deaf Women Aloud Initiative) partner with FCT Health & Human Services Secretariat to historical launching of Basic Health Sign –language workshop & Orientation training for health practitioners in FCT, the first of its kind. The workshop is supported by the US Embassy, Abuja.
The purpose of the program is to provide basic health sign-language training for the health practitioners in FCT so that they will be more prepared and innovative towards meeting the special needs of Deaf Women and girls who visit their health facilities as well as improve their services delivery within the hospitals.
The recognition and promotion of sign language to gain access to quality sexual and reproductive health information for deaf women are therefore not only relevant but imperative to the actualization of the vision of the FCT administration for equitable health care for all people in FCT (Acting Secretary Health and Human Services Secretariat)
